FAKTR (pronounced FACTOR) is actually a concept, not a technique. The acronym stands for Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab. Co-Developed by Dr. Tom Hyde, DC, DACBSP, FRCCSS (Hon), ICSSD, CKTP, CSTI, GT, ART, FAKTR, FICC, incorporates the latest research and evidence-based soft-tissue techniques into a comprehensive protocol to treat common disorders of the musculoskeletal system and complicated injuries quickly and easily with impressive results. This unique approach to treating in the position of provocation (pain, loss of range of motion, feeling of tightness within the fascia/soft tissues) and during motion sets FAKTR-certified providers in a class all their own. FAKTR incorporates all of the above variations to evaluate and treat soft tissue/fascial conditions. Breanna Bullington and Dr. Josh Jensen are FAKTR certified.
What conditions can FAKTR treat?
FAKTR can treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions including tendinopathy, sprains, strains, entrapment syndromes, fascial restrictions such as plantar fasciitis, ITB syndrome, myofascial pain syndromes, adhesive capsulitis, shin splints and post-surgical recovery. This list of conditions that can be treated with FAKTR protocols are too numerous to list here!
Who is the ideal patient for FAKTR?
While FAKTR is a great way to treat athletes quickly, the concept can be applied to all ages and all body types. FAKTR is excellent for those involved in auto accidents, work related injuries, sports injuries, post-surgical work including joint replacement and conditions of daily living.
INSTRUMENT ASSISTED SOFT TISSUE MOBILIZATION
Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization is a manual therapy. The instruments are used to scan areas of dysfunction while looking for a reaction from the skin. These areas are then treated with similar techniques. It involves the gentle sliding of the tools over the skin to break up adhesions between the skin and the tissues below allowing for better movement of the muscles. It also helps break up adhesions within the muscles to further allow more efficient and pain free movement with each therapy session.
CUPPING
Cupping is a form of manual therapy that uses cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction, and helps with pain, inflammation, promotes blood flow & circulation, relaxation, and well-being. Patients needing physical therapy benefit greatly with cupping therapy.
RESISTANCE BANDS
Resistance bands are thick elastic bands that provide a way to strengthen muscles by using the resistance from the bands during the exercises and stretches.
EXERCISE BIKE
Exercise bikes are used for general fitness, weight loss, training, knee/hip replacement rehab therapy, or to warm up for the therapy session. They are good for low impact exercise, safety, and effective for cardiovascular exercise.
FREE WEIGHTS
Free weights are used to strengthen muscles during therapy to increase overall range of motion, strength, and decrease pain in certain areas.
TREADMILL
The treadmill is used for general fitness, weight loss, training, and warm up during therapy sessions to increase overall success and well-being.
